Muswellbrook Partnership for Success

Project Background
The Muswellbrook Enrichment  centre 'Partnerhsips for Success' began operation early in 2010 after discussions with stakeholders, partners and sponsors in 2009.  The Project is based on similar successful projects operation in other states and territories.  The Centre is located on Wanaruah land  and is the first to operate in New South Wales

STEERING COMMITTEE
A Steering Committee oversees the project and provides strategic level management. The Steering Committee includes representatives from all Partnership organisations:

  • The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation
  • The NSW Department of Education and Training
  • Hunt Family Foundation
  • BHP Billiton Mr Arthur Coal
  • Sarah Halvedene Foundation
  • Rio Tinto - Coal & Allied
  • Community members

The first steering committee meeting was held in October  2009, and Debbie Douglass was appointed the permanent Project Coordinator in December of the same year.  Students commenced attending in April 2010

ENRICHMENT CENTRE
The Enrichment Centre operates after school, Monday through to Thursday in a classroom located on the Upper Hunter TAFE, Muswellbrook campus.  In the inaugral year of 2010, 27 students from Year 7 to 12 were part of the proram and the enrolment of 2011 is 32 students.  Students walk to the Centre after school, enjoy a nutritious afternoon tea and then complete their school assessment tasks or other activities with tutors to consolidate or extend their skills. Career planning and Aboriginal cultural awareness activities also help enrich all our students.  In 2011, Muswellbrook TAFE has been able to make available to the Enrichment Centre two dedicated classrooms which is welcomed and valued the the students and their families.
