The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation Board

The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation has two Patrons Graham (Polly) Farmer and Dr Sue Gordon AM. The Board consists of President Dr Sue Gordon AM, Deputy President Hon Fred Chaney AO and 11 Indigenous and non-Indigenous Board members who, contribute their varied backgrounds, and committment to the advancement of Aboriginal people in Australia.

All Aboriginal students should be able to make choices on whatever career path they want to take.

When every Aboriginal child gets an education which gives confidence to deal with both cultures we will have made it as a reconciled nation.

Endeavouring to ensure that all students have similar opportunities has been a focus of my professional life and the work of the Foundation is clearly aimed at achieving this for as many Indigenous students as possible.

Each Indigenous student involved in the Foundations education programs should be able to reach their full potential. The programs are about setting these young people up to succeed as young adults, whether it be in further education, training, employment, personal development, and/or leadership. Our young people are our future, and the future looks.

The Foundation provides an environment, and a learning experience where, (with apologies to Aretha Franklin), "young, gifted and black" Aboriginal Australians will find encouragement and challenges; discipline and love, which will equip them to go on to happy and fulfilling lives.

My hope is that this special Foundation can continue to offer opportunities for students to access their journey and progress to the point where they become leaders of their own communities, encouraging others to further their education journey – it is never too late.

I look forward to the day when every Aboriginal child receives the same level of education and life opportunities as any other Australian child, without losing their cultural identity, and I hope that The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation can help drive that process.

It is important to target people with potential. If you target where you think you can have a bigger impact and you do it well, that draws other people in, and creates new opportunities.

‘From little things big things grow...’ this is my hope for the Foundation and its support for the future generations of Aboriginal children and youth.

I support the Foundation because I’ve seen the work and dedication of the Board members and staff to bringing about change for young Aboriginal people through education programs. I’ve witnessed the results of those programs across the country and feel that in my own small way, I’ve been a part of that.

Thanks to The Graham Farmer Foundation many Aboriginal children are now gaining a sound education and enhancing their future. A great legacy from one of Australia’s greatest, Graham Polly Farmer.

The program is about changing individuals’ lives, setting young people up for a positive future, and breaking cycles of poverty. It is very rewarding to contribute in some small way.
